Our Calling to be Prayer Warriors

“In my deepest, darkest moments, what really got me through was a prayer. Sometimes my prayer was ‘Help me.’ Sometimes a prayer was ‘Thank you.’ What I’ve discovered is that intimate connection and communication with my creator will always get me through because I know my support, my help, is just a prayer away.” ~Iyanla Vanzant

Have you ever met someone and wondered what possible reason God could have for bringing them into your life? You just know that they create more stress than good for you.

I’ve lost track of how many times I have asked God, “why?” Why Lord!? Why do I have to deal with this person?

You see, sometimes they get on my very last nerve and other times I don’t want to hurt their feelings. I even try to barter with God on ways that I can get out of this situation. Like: “God, I know that’s your child, but how about finding them a new job so that I can have some peace of mind?”

Pray for others like their lives depend upon it. | Our Calling to be Prayer Warriors | Blog Post

I’m Not the Only One

One of my good friends had a challenging person to deal with last week. “God, why is this person in my life,” she asked. As I listened to her explain the situation, I saw that there could be various reasons why this person was around but none seemed like a good enough reason.

Then it dawned on me.

Does it matter whether or not God reveals His entire plan? Or does it matter what we do with the people He puts in our life? Definitely the latter. My friend and I realized that the most valuable thing we could do for this person was to pray for them.

Prayer is Power

“In my deepest, darkest moments, what really got me through was a prayer. Sometimes my prayer was ‘Help me.’ Sometimes a prayer was ‘Thank you.’ What I’ve discovered is that intimate connection and communication with my creator will always get me through because I know my support, my help, is just a prayer away.” ~Iyanla Vanzant

My support, my help is just a prayer away. I believe that with all of my heart. I also believe that the support that someone else needs is just a prayer away too.

There are tons of ways that we can help people out. We can listen, provide wise counsel, spend time with them, or give a gift. All of these ways are wonderful. Yet, none of them hold a candle to prayer.

Prayer is an intimate connection that delves beyond the superficial and reveals our purest thoughts. It is an opportunity for us to communicate to God what we struggle to communicate to others. Though, that’s only one side of the coin!

On the other side, we see how prayer plows through barriers created by sin to reconnect God and man. God, in turn, reveals wonders of this world and His majesty through the connection created by prayer. Amazing!

We’re Not on this Journey Alone

“For though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does. The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds.” 1 Cor. 10:3,4.

Imagine the strongholds over our life that could be obliterated if we only communicated with God and allowed Him to break those chains. We wouldn’t know what to do with all of that freedom! Mercy….

That same freedom is what we offer friends, family, and strangers when we intercede on their behalf through prayer. Crazy changes are possible! Mind blowing transformations can happen.

While I was talking with my friend, I realized that there was something great we could do for this person. Something that could help change them forever! Pray for them. Sincerely, earnestly, and consistently pray for them.

We are not on this journey alone. Instead, we are surrounded by millions of other people who need the strength that we have gained from God. Millions of people who need to see prayer in action. Ultimately, they need to see mountains moved as a result of our prayers.

Pray that their patience will increase.

No matter what others say, pray that they will live a pure lifestyle.

Despite their pain, pray that they have a heart that forgives.

Pray that all of the anger burning inside them will be wiped away.

Even if they’re standing alone, prayer for the strength to stand tall.

Pray for them to receive the peace that passes all understanding.

If they are unsure of their calling, pray that God reveals it to them.

Don’t sit back waiting for someone else to do what you can do. Pray. Pray as though their life depends upon it. In actuality, it does. Be the person willing to break through the smog of sin in their life by the power of God. On our own, it’s not easy to commit to praying for others. No doubt, there’s a lot of people to pray for!

“Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.” Matthew 7:7. God does not call us to something that He doesn’t equip us to handle. So, if He calls for us to pray for each other, then He’ll give us the ability to push past our insecurities and pray.

You’re Here for a Reason

The Enemy wants you to believe that the place you’re at in your life is insignificant. He’s trying to build a wall of doubt around your mind to keep gratitude and contentment from having access to your thoughts. Deception! God has placed you in that city, in that particular neighborhood, on that job, and in that church for a reason.

Even when we veer off course, God still has the power and wisdom to make something good come out of our disobedience. Jonah went in the complete opposite direction that God directed him to go. Yet, every sailor on that ship saw the miracle of the calmed sea when Jonah acknowledged God as the Great I Am.

It could be as simple as the route you take to work. The person who cuts you off in traffic and flicks you off could be the person who needs prayer over their anger. Additionally, the woman who never smiles at the spot where you grab lunch could be the woman who needs prayer over her anxiety issues.

God works through you to reach anyone He desires to reach. No matter if you forgot to have devotions one day or you don’t think you can pray as well as the person on your left—He can use you. Rejecting your own sphere of influence downgrades where God has intentionally placed you.

If you’re so focused on the role that someone else has been given, who will fill your role?

Quote: Rejecting your own sphere of influence downgrades where God has intentionally placed you.

Who are you called to pray for? Then pray every day for them for the next seven days.
